Can you pay attention longer than a goldfish? šŸŸ

Volume 17

Do you happen to know the average attention span of a human? Think about it. Iā€™ll wait. Chances are when I was waiting, you may have actually lost your attention, since the average attention span of a human is 8 seconds. Yep ā€“ thatā€™s right. 8 little seconds, which is smaller than a goldfish's attention span!

Itā€™s back-to-school season and I canā€™t think of a more appropriate topic for this time. Whether youā€™re an educator teaching students or an EdTech brand trying to gain the attention of educators and administrators, attention should be top-of-mind for you (pun intended).

To ensure I keep your attention, letā€™s start with a game. Pick any object and have a group (perhaps your team or class) focus on the object for 2 minutes. Every time someone loses their focus, have them raise their hand. Soon, you'll have a beautiful dance of hands in the air. Remember -- itā€™s not about winning or losing in this game. Itā€™s about becoming aware of how many times you lose your focus and that awareness can slowly help you become more mindful of being in the present moment. If you do this regularly, I can't guaratee it'll make your students listen to your more but it may just help you all become more mindful and present. :)

Speaking of attention, if youā€™re an EdTech brand, Iā€™ll leave with this mic drop moment from an educator. šŸŽ¤

I wish you all a wonderful back-to-school season and know whatever you do in education ā€“ you matter so much. Keep going and whatever you do, try to live in the moment.

Take good care,
