Newsletter Volume 10
For the last couple of years, I’ve gotten into the habit of writing three things that I am grateful for every day. Because of this, I thought I was a fairly grateful person, but a recent injury helped me understand that there are many things I took for granted. Being able to walk was one of them. At the end of May, I unfortunately fell and have been on crutches since. If you know me, although I tend to speak slowly, I am a very active person and do everything in hyperspeed. So much so, that my mom calls me a bull in a china shop, barrelling my way through things. Now that I’ve been forced to slow down, I’ve come to realize that I should reframe this from a setback to an opportunity. An opportunity to grow patience, self-compassion (I just simply cannot do everything I used to), and gratitude (especially for the many things I do have).
One of the things that I remain incredibly grateful for is our educators. I know I say this a lot but we are incredibly lucky to have such an agile and passionate group of folks that proved that they were willing to go above and beyond for their students. Although June is one of my favorite times of the year where I get to learn alongside educators and connect with them in person at conferences, this year I got to witness it all virtually. Educators displayed their excitement for what they were learning at conferences like ISTE on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and it was contagious. Their dedication to learn as much as possible, coupled with their selflessness to help other educators inspired me. It inspired me to be better. To help more people. To learn more. To do more.
As this long fourth of July weekend approaches, I hope you take time to not only relax and recharge (& eat a hot dog or two 🌭), but also reflect on the things you may take for granted and bring that into your gratitude practice.
Be well.
PS: Our team is growing! We’re hiring for two fall interns and very soon, we’ll be hiring for a community manager.
